the stutter problem can probably be sorted by tweaking the parameters
in the .asoundrc file. However, also try resetting the system settings
with C-e d R. After starting emacspeak and the startup message has
completed, hit C-e d R and see if that stops the stutter.
I'm suggesting this as I just noticed exactly this behavior on my
system this morning. I've been running it for a week with no problems.
This morning I had to shutdown and restart because of a new emacs CVS
version. However, when it started again, I also had the stutter.
Hitting C-e d R fixed it for me.
