I've checked in your beep script for now into the servers
directory.
I changed sample rate to 16000.

For now I wont update the installer to copy this script to
/usr/bin or anywhere else since siggen is something the user will
have to build and install first ---
and there is no point in calling this script something else and
introducing complex if/then logic into the TTS servers.

But the output is nicer than the PC speaker, and now that ALSA
works with TTS, the script  a better solution 
than using the PC speaker.
