Got it working. Sorry for wasting bandwidth.
I forgot to go to /etc/ld.so.conf and add /usr/local/lib. Of course it wouldn't be there. RPM wouldn't install in /usr/local. Fonix should really document this.
Now to configure Emacspeak to use this synth ...
